Escouts is 'managed' and financed equally by Jonathan Bloor, Richard Fairbairn . This new strategic and financial overview has given us the confidence to believe again in Escouts Free Webhosting model. In addition the price of dedicated servers has reduced.
Escouts began life in April 2001 when Richard Fairbairn a Cub Scout Leader for the 14th Midlothian Bonnyrigg Scout Group had some spare bandwith on Lothian.net and thought that Scouting could benefit. Richard became AAC(Cub Scouts) Midlothian in Sept 2001, but not because of Escouts! Richard is now also a member of the Scottish Board, again not because of Escouts!! During the day Richard is a Systems Administrator of a Patient Information System within NHS Lothian.
In the Spring of 2002 Jonathan Bloor joined Escouts. Jonathan has been a Scout Leader for more than ten years, currently looking like being an ASL with the 4th Ashby-de-la-Zouch Scout Group. He also runs a successful webhosting company.
Matt Hanson joined Escouts a few months later, he is the Scout Network Chairman on the Isle of Wight and is an Assistant Cub Leader. Matt started life with Escouts developing and modifying the first forum, then worked on some of the intial back-end systems for new account signups etc. With an extensive knowledge of server technologies, he can hack pretty much any code to do what he wants! Ross MacDonald became part of the Escouts Team in Autumn 2002, after building a website using Escout's free hosting. He is with the 1st Houston & Crosslee Scout Troop, and is assisting with support as well as moderating the forums. Ross is proud to see Escouts growing from strength to strength and thanks all the members for their support. Ross Left Escouts in October 2004
Shortly after this Simon McCarthy, Assistant Scout Leader with the 27th All Saints Troop and is also the Strood District Scouts Website Administrator / Member of the PR Team joined the escouts team. Simon Left Escouts in November 2004
The next member of the Escouts team is Graham Macaulay. Graham is a young leader for the 16th Purley Troop, as well as webmaster for his group and district site. Graham has assisted in support tickets and new account signups. In Graham's spare time he likes to play rugby and go kayaking.
Graham Smith (GrumWSmith). Graham joined Escouts in Summer 2003 and is currently an assistant leader with the 19th Ayrshire Scout Group Scout troop in between running a small hosting company and volunteer work with the Caley ICT-Music Learning Hub. Grum has assisted with support tickets and accounts. Grum left Escouts in September 2004
Daniel Haigh started his scouting life in the beaver section at a local scout group, moving to 4th Golcar in 1998 when he joined the scout section, Having continued though explorers he has gained his Duke of Edinburgh Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards and also his Queens Scout Award. Daniel is now an Assistant Cub Scout Leader at 4th Huddersfield (Golcar) Scout Group in West Yorkshire. Daniel has just finished a two-year ICT Course and is currently looking for an IT job. Daniel assists with support tickets and new account sign ups.
Dave Field is the Leader of the Explorer Young Leader Unit for Petworth and Pulborough District in West Sussex and the Webmaster for West Sussex Explorers Online. He has been in the Scout movement since 1964 when he was a Wolf Cub right through to Venture Scouts. He has been an ACSL, ASL and a Scout Leader. He holds an Instructors Certificate for Small Arms from the NSRA. By day he is a Transport Manager for an Agriculture and Fencing Supplier. Dave assists with support tickets and new account sign-ups.
Richard Willars is the latest member of the Escouts team - Rich joined Scouting from the age of 6, and has never stopped. Now the District Webmaster for Ashby & Coalville in Leicestershire, and just finished as an Explorer, he has gained his Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards and is working towards his Queens Scout Award. He founded, designed and maintains the Route Hiker project, and runs a department in a new web services company. Rich assists with support tickets and new account sign-ups.
Hosting has been provided on a variety of Unix Reseller accounts based at Donhost and Zouch Solutions and a dedicated server provided by Pathfinder Hosting. Our current server is based in a London Docklands Data Centre and is managed by Pathfinder Hosting.
Advertising for Escouts has been left to uk.rec.scouting and links on peoples sites however Escouts continues from strength to strength.
