1. Sungai Batangsi Waterfalls
This three-tiered waterfall in Hulu Langat district is great for picnic and trekking. Once in this lush green rainforest, there is nothing quite like the mesmerizing sound of rushing waters of this waterfall. Visitors may choose to walk along the paths uphill or trek in the water which takes approximately 40 minutes. Be prepared to get wet and take extra precaution to avoid slippery rocks.

2. Sungai Congkak Recreational Forest
Cool, crystal-clear water, roaring rapids and cascading river are the highlights of Sungai Congkak Recreational Forest in the Hulu Langat district. 3. Sungai Dusun Rhino Conservation Centre
Located in Sungai Dusun, Hulu Selangor, this unique rhinocerous conservation centre is managed by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks Malaysia. Several programs are undertaken here to breed the Sumatran Rhino (Dicerorhinos Sumatrensis), which is a species protected by law throughout Malaysia. This type of rhinocerous is the smallest of the five living rhinocerous in the world today, and it is one of the rarest and endangered species of large mammals. It is also the oldest rhinocerous in evolutionary terms. In appearance, it has a hairy coat and hairy ears.

4. Hulu Tamu Hotsprings
Located in the Hulu Selangor district, the Hulu Tamu hotsprings is often visited by locals. Hot water from the underground springs is believed by some to have medicinal value, especially in cures for skin ailments and rheumatism. A visit to the Hulu Tamu hotsprings will also bring the visitor through some of the traditional villages in the state as well as rubber and oil palm plantations. 5. Hulu Tamu Orchards

6. Kampung Kuantan Fireflies
Just outside Kuala Selangor town is the quiet hamlet of Kampung Kuantan, site of one of the largest firefly colonies in the world. 9. Kanching Waterfall
Less than a kilometre further North are the many cascades of the Kanching Waterfalls, commonly refered to as the Templer Park Falls. 10. Kuala Selangor
Even before Kelang become the capital city of Selangor, Kuala Selangor was the home of the Selangor Sultanate. Two fortresses were built on the hills overlooking the estuary of the Selangor river in order to guard the city. The largest of the two, standing on Bukit Melawati, is now the royal mausoleum containing the remains of Selangor's early Bugis rulers. Bukit Melawati overlooks the Kuala Selangor Nature Park, which is being jointly developed by the State Government and Malayan Nature Society. It consists of more than 250 hectares of coastal land, most of it mangrove swamp, and contains about 130 species of birds. An estimated 100,000 wading birds, comprising 30 odd species, pass through here on their annual migration. Artifical lakes have been created to attact some of these birds, and observation hides have been built to allow visitors to watch the birds without disturbing them. Leaf monkeys can also be seen in the mangroves.

11. National Zoo
The National Zoo and Aquarium spans 62 hectares of shady forest land encompassing several ponds and small stgreams, at Ulu Kelang on the outskirts of the city. Built to resemble as closely as possible the natural habitat of the various animals and birds, the zoo is home to about 1,000 species of flora and fauna from Malaysia and other parts of the world. The Aquarium houses some 82 species of marine life. For children, there is the added attraction of exciting elephant, camel and donkey-cart rides, boat rides and Zoo train. There are also special showtimes featuring elephants, parrot, orang utan and sea-lions.

12. Safari Lagoon Water Theme Park
Fancy going shopping while your children busy themselves at a theme park all under the same roof. Well, it is possible at the Pandan Safari Lagoon Shopping Complex in Pandan Perdana. Safari Lagoon Water Theme Park, the first rooftop water theme park in the Klang Valley, covers an area of 0.9 hectares on the seventh floor of the shopping complex. It is able to hold 3,000 people at any one time and is the place to have splashing fun at one�s own leisure. 13. Paya Indah Wetland Sanctuary
Just 15km north of the KLIA International Airport, this 3,100-hectare wetland sanctuary is a showcase of integrated conservation and development project. Formerly barren land caused by exhaustive tin mining activities, Paya Indah Wetland Sanctuary is now being restored to its natural state comprising lakes, peat swamp and lowland forests. It is now home to more than 142 species of birds, 40 species of fish, 25 species of mammals and reptiles, 220 species of aquatic and terrestrial plants. Visitors to this sanctuary can look forward to a myriad of experiences. They can enjoy the fiesta of greenery and wildlife simply by walking along its meandering paths and on boardwalks that lead to the lakes. Visitors could also choose nature-based activities such as fishing, bird watching, nature tours, jungle trekking, camping, biking, horse riding, canoeing, boating and picnic � all in the midst of a peaceful environment.

14. Sekinchan
Sekinchan is a little town in the middle of the main rice-bowl area of Selangor, in the Sabak Bernam district. Visitors are able to see large plots of land cultivated to produce the staple food of Malaysians. This area is also well known for its mechanised farming methods and high yield of rice. A visit here provides the opportunity to see the sweeping green or gold (depending on the time of the year) fields of paddy reaching out clear to the horizon.

15. Bukit Takun
A swimming pool, filled by the waters of a natural stream, is one of the attractions, as are walks in the forest. The more adventurous can try to make their way into the cave in Anak Bukit Takun, a 100m high limestone hill, near the edge of the park.
Alternatively, one can try to find the route to the top of the nearby 350m high Bukit Takun, in the adjacent Serendah forest reserve, to view the razor-edged, 30m high, linestone pinnacles. The latter is quite dangerous and should only be done with experienced guides and special equipment.

16. Commonwealth Forest Park
North-bound tourists heading towards Rawang from Kuala Lumpur should make an attempt to visit the the Commonwealth Forest Park which is located beside the trunk road. Launched to commemorate the 14th Commonwealth Forest Conference in 1993, this attractive park combines dense jungle with landscaped gardens, formal arrangements, camping grounds, chalets, fountains, jogging tracks, hiking trails and other amenities to give visitors an idyllic choice for a greenery-clothed gateway.

17. Forestry Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM)
Spread over 1,528 hectares, the FRIM forest reserve is just 30 minutes' drive from Kuala Lumpur City Centre, and it contains both regenerated and secondary forest which together hold hundreds of plant life species. FRIM offers natural thrills such as trekking through a tropical rainforest whilst enjoying the flora, fauna, landscapes and the remains of an old Orang Asli settlement. A waterfall and river cutting through this forest reserve adds serenity to this luxuriant landscape. The more adventurous may fancy walking on the four jungle tracks in FRIM: Keruing Trail, Rover Track, Engkabang Trail and Salleh Trail. These trails will take visitors through some spectacular secondary forests in Malaysia. As you walk through the trails, take time to open yourself to the sights, smells and sounds of nature around you. For those who seek additional adventure, try the Canopy Walk which is 30 metres above the ground. Let your spirit soar as you walk up greater heights in the canopy - the top layer of vegetation in a forest. This 200-metre canopy walkway is built on tree tops and is the third of its kind in Malaysia.

19. Bukit Melawati
This landscaped hill offers a panoramic view of the Selangor coast and the Klang Valley. 20. Bukit Cahaya Seri Alam
It has succeeded amazingly in presenting a large part of rural Malaysia in a nutshell-some 1258 hectares in all. Those who appreciate beauty will find serenity in the mere smell of grass, richness in the colour of live-giving chlorophyll and strength in a solid trunk.
Tropical Fruits Garden and Arboretum in Bukit Cahaya where there's a living collection of fruit and trees. One can also visit the Mushroom Garden which is the home to several species of cultivated mushrooms. The Animal Park, spread over 72 hectares of land, houses several types of livestock. Among those that you'll get to see are goats, rabbits, cows and sheep. Across from Animal Park is the Aviary, comprising massive cages and housing a number of species of local and other exotic birds from many lands. The heart of soul of Bukit Cahaya must be the Forestry Arboretum where the art and science of agro-forestry come to life.

21. Sungai Gabai Waterfalls
On the same road to Sungai Chongkak in Hulu Langat district, is the refreshing site of the Sungai Gabai Waterfalls. Several falls cascade down over 100 metres, culminating in a broad, photogenic plunge into a series of small pools suitable for swimming. The Sungai Batangsi Waterfalls and Sungai Lallang Recreational Forest are down the same road to Hulu Langat.

24. Sungai Tekala Recreation Park
Established since 1982, Hutan Lipur Sungai Tekala is located in Hulu Langat; about 14 km from Semenyih and 9 km from Kajang. The recreation park is one of the few nature hideouts here which has been developed into a lovely camp cum picnic site, perfect for short afternoon or weekend gateways. The crystal clear waters of the shallow Sg. Tekala is ideal for bathing and there are basic changing facilities available for the convenience of visitors. The higher levels of the river lead up to a sparkling waterfall which cascade into a natural rock pool. Other facilities such as rest huts which make pleasent shelters from the hot sun and benches for you to rest are available.

27. Taman Alam (Nature Park)
This 800-acre park, located in Kuala Selangor is a haven for a wide varieties of floras and fauna. You will be able to spot wild animals in their surroundings, such as mammals like the smooth otter, leopard cat, silvered leaf-monkey and macaques; some 99 soecies of local birds, 57 migratory birds of which 26 are waders. There are also about 15 species of crabs, a variety of butterflies, insects, reptiles, molluscs and fish, and not to forget mud skippers, mud lobsters and king crabs.
Taman Alam provides facilities such as parking lots, visitors centre, chalets and rest areas. The park has 6 nature trails. Do not forget to bring along your binoculars and camera with zoom-lens to view water birds from 2 bird hides overlooking the brackish lake system. One can also experience crossing the rope bridge situated at the far end of the Eagle's Trail. Other points of interest are the watch towers, the mouth of the Selangor River, the secondary forest, mangroove forest, the board walk and mud flats.

28. Taman Pertanian Malaysia (Malaysia Agriculture Park)
The Malaysia Agriculture Park is the only agro-forestry park in this part of the world. It was initiated by the Agriculture Ministry of Malaysia in 1986.
The park is designed in such a way that it gives visitors a total experience of its natural attributes, scientic facilities and agricultural presentations. All these are set within a luscious tropical rain forest in a scenic 1,290-hectare site in Shah Alam. Its planners have in mind an open-air 'university' for the dual purpose of recreation and education. Here's place to learn all about trees by their names! As one of Malaysia's most popular parks, it has permanent displays, live demonstrations, cultural exhibits, recreational facilities, accommodation, picnic areas, open-air amphitheatres, natural trails, public amenities and numerous educational opportunities.

29. Templer's Park
Set in a backdrop of lush green forest and limestone hills, Templer Park is just 20 km North of Kuala Lumpur off the North-South Highway. Pulau Ketam (Island of Crabs) is the small island located off the south-western coast of Malaysia in the Straits of Melaka. The island is easily accessible from the Port Klang jetty by a ferry which operates on an hourly basis. 35. Carey Island
Located just off the mainland, Carey Island in the Kuala Langat district is well known for its orang asli or aborigines community called the Mah Meri. This tribe is concentrated at Sungai Bumbun and is famed for its wood carvings. The Mah Meri craftsmen find subjects for their artistic expression through the ancestral spirits they worship. Apart from producing sculptures, the Mah Meri also perform their unique traditional dances and music during special occasions.
